George Mason University Indoor Drumline at WGICon

9/7/2019

Read about the first ever WGICon, representing GMU, and indoor drumline auditions!

The George Mason University Indoor Drumline is one of Mason’s two WGI Sport of the Arts world class groups. WGI, known for being the world’s premier organization producing indoor marching competitions, held the first ever WGICon this year. This educational event was created for instructors, designers, technicians and administrators of percussion, winds and color guard groups around the world. George Mason University was lucky to have been represented at this special event.

Drumline directors Travis Peterman and Dan Schack were invited to speak about organizational logistics and creative design. Their session focused on the relationship between logistics and design, and how to find a balance of both for the benefit of the students. “WGICon is an opportunity to network with other like-minded individuals in the marching arts community who are looking to expand their knowledge and push themselves into the future of our activity,” said Dan. “It is an absolute must for new educators and designers and a great way for tenured educators and designers to keep themselves fresh in our ever-evolving world.”

Our Indoor Drumline is gearing up for auditions for the 2020 season. Auditions for the group are highly competitive, and each year the number of auditionees grows in size! Registration is $85 per potential member and the technique packet is free! This year, the GMU Indoor Drumline is also offering a discounted price ($45 per registrant) for high school students interested in gaining experience from a world class instructional staff.
