A Summer of Patriots Fife and Drum Corps

9/23/2019

The George Mason University Patriots Fife and Drum Corps has had a very busy summer!

After performing at Mason’s Spring commencement, they traveled to Williamsburg to perform in The Colonial Williamsburg Drummer’s call on May 18th. The day began with a morning parade through Colonial Williamsburg and ended at Muster Field where each corps had the chance to perform their stand tunes. There were approximately 20 corps participating. After taking a break for dinner, the corps met back at the Capitol Building and marched in a torchlit parade back through Colonial Williamsburg and ended the night by joining together to make music at the torchlit tattoo. People of all ages participated in this event and the skills and pageantry were a joy to witness!

On July 20th, they traveled to the 2019 Deep Ancient Muster in Deep River, Connecticut. This was an event that included a parade through the town of Deep River followed by a concert of stand-still tunes at the local baseball field. It seemed the entire town turned out for the event.  All the corps that attended camped out in a large field, adding a level of authenticity to the weekend.  This was the first time the George Mason University Patriots Fife and Drum Corps, led by Director Shane Nickels, attended these events and they were grateful for the experience.
